• The role of the persistent journalist was initially intended for Whoopi Goldberg, but director Joseph Zito later changed his mind.
• Quite a few private houses were blown up and burned during filming. All these scenes were filmed in southern Atlanta, near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. These houses had been purchased for airport expansion and were prepared for demolition, and were vacant at the time of filming.
• Following the film's release in October 1985, a book was published by "Pinnacle Books".
• The film features a scene where Hunter and Rostov watch the classic 1956 science fiction film "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" on television, in which aliens attack America.
