The film is dedicated to Jason Bernard, who played Judge Stevens and passed away from a heart attack shortly after filming.
The teacher in class reads "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss to Max and the other children, who also wrote the fairy tale "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," in which Jim Carrey plays the Grinch.
For this film, Jim Carrey turned down the role of Dr. Evil in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997).
Steve Martin was originally slated to play Fletcher Reed, but he declined the role due to commitments to other projects.
When Carrey beats himself up in the bathroom, the sounds in the film are not dubbed – they are genuinely the sounds of him hitting his head against the toilet, walls, and other available objects.
