Short description
A father reminisces about his childhood when he and his younger brother moved to a new town with their mother, her new husband and their dog, Shane. When the younger brother is subjected to physical abuse at the hands of their brutal stepfather, Mike decides to convert their toy trolley, the "Radio Flyer", into a plane to fly him to safety.
What's left behind the scenes
- The original script contained many fantastical scenes, for example, with a worm-man or zombies. However, they were removed by Richard Donner when he replaced screenwriter David M. Evans as director. Incidentally, the film's budget almost doubled after the change of director and exceeded 30 million dollars.
- On the movie theater stand, you can see a poster for the film X-15 (1961), also directed by Richard Donner.
- When Mike reads the postcard from Bobby, their last name – Wright – can be seen on it, just like the Wright brothers, pioneers of aviation.
- Joseph Marcello's younger brother John and Elijah Wood's younger sister Hanna appeared in episodic roles in the film.
