Filming began on June 19, 2006, and for a while took place in the Fontainebleau forest, but the film crew soon found themselves at a studio in Alicante, where an Olympic stadium had already been erected.
Real athletes appeared in cameo roles in the film: racing driver Michael Schumacher, tennis player Amélie Mauresmo, basketball player Tony Parker, and footballer Zinedine Zidane (although initially it was assumed that it would be David Beckham).
Like Caesar in this film, Alain Delon often speaks about himself in the third person.
