- Xavier Dolan wrote the screenplay for his film when he was 16 years old.
- Some episodes in the film bear resemblance to the film “The 400 Blows” (a poster of which briefly appears in a scene).
- Xavier Dolan financed part of the film's production himself, investing around $175,000. To complete the film, he also had to seek financial assistance from two Canadian state companies – Telefilm Canada and SODEC. He initially received rejections from both, but in December 2008, SODEC granted a subsidy.
