According to Don Coscarelli, several studios offered to produce a big-budget remake of 'Phantasm,' but at the request of the franchise's fans, it was decided to make the final part of the story with the original cast.
This film was the first in the franchise not directed by Don Coscarelli. David Hartman filmed the movie under the close supervision of Coscarelli.
The film premiered in the fall of 2016, 37 years after the release of the first installment.
The original title of the film translates as "Phantasm 5: Destroyer".
The film features both the original "Phantasm" musical theme and its enhanced versions.
On January 9, 2016, at the age of 89, Angus Scrimm – who played the main antagonist in all installments of "Phantasm" – passed away before the film's premiere.
