Short description
Hannah and Tahir fall in love while homeless on the streets of New York. Shelter explores how they got there, and as we learn about their pasts we realize they need each other to build a future.
What's left behind the scenes
- While preparing for the role of Hanna, Jennifer Connelly lost 11 kg. The actress carried syringes and other paraphernalia used by drug addicts with her for several months to get used to it.
- Anthony Mackie looked so convincing in the role of a homeless man that during filming in New York, while in character, he once ran into a friend who recognized him and asked if Mackie needed money.
- The apartment of director Paul Bettany and actress Jennifer Connelly is located directly opposite a homeless shelter that closed after Hurricane Sandy (2012). The film is dedicated to the residents of that shelter.
- Paul Bettany decided to film Jennifer Connelly because of an incident with a homeless man and a twenty-dollar bill. Once, at the entrance to a store, she gave a homeless man $20, and he thanked her. On the way out, she ran into him again, standing with his hand outstretched.
