• The premiere was scheduled for September 25, 2015, but Relativity Media (the US distributor) filed for bankruptcy, leaving the release date uncertain.
• Director Mike Flanagan objected to his work being called a “horror film.” He preferred the terms “fairy tale” or “supernatural drama.”
• Thomas Jane is known for playing Frank Castle in the 2004 film adaptation of the Marvel comic book *The Punisher*, directed by Jonathan Hensleigh.
