Short description
While touring in Italy, a recently-widowed American opera singer has an incestuous relationship with her 15-year-old son to help him overcome his heroin addiction.
What's left behind the scenes
- The Italian producers of the film were so outraged by the plot that they forbade director Bernardo Bertolucci (1941-2018) from casting local actors, so the main characters had to be made American, played by Jill Clayburgh (1944-2010) and Matthew Barry.
- At one point, the director considered filming an explicit lovemaking scene between a mother and son, played by Jill Clayburgh and Matthew Barry respectively, but ultimately abandoned the idea.
