Short description
Gellert Grindelwald has escaped imprisonment and has begun gathering followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one capable of putting a stop to him is the wizard he once called his closest friend, Albus Dumbledore. However, Dumbledore will need to seek help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
What's left behind the scenes
- Johnny Depp agreed to participate in the film without even reading the script. The actor stated that he has long been and remains a devoted fan of J.K. Rowling's works.
- During preparation for the role of Dumbledore, Jude Law had a lengthy meeting with J.K. Rowling, during which she provided him with information about the character that no one else knew. In addition, Law studied the character in the 'Potter' films as performed by Michael Gambon.
- Hogwarts' exterior was filmed at Lacock Abbey, built in 1229. It is located in the ceremonial county of Wiltshire. Hogwarts was also filmed there in the first films of the 'Harry Potter' franchise.
- The role of Nagini was initially offered to Indonesian actress Acha Septriasa, as, according to J.K. Rowling, the character was inspired by motifs from Indonesian folklore. The actress declined the offer as she was expecting a child.
- The filming of the movie and the script itself were shrouded in the strictest secrecy, so the crew used code names to refer to the characters.
- The film was shot almost exclusively at the Warner Bros. studio in Hertfordshire, nearly 30 kilometers from London.
- Nicolas, or Nicholas Flamel (1330-1418) was a public scribe and bookstore owner. This alchemist is credited with obtaining the Philosopher's Stone and the elixir of life. His name is mentioned in many books.
