• The film's plot is based on a reboot of the popular computer game Tomb Raider (2013).
• MGM announced in March 2013 that it had bought the rights to the Tomb Raider game from Paramount. Paramount made this decision after the failure of the adventure action film "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" (Jan de Bont, 2003).
