Short description
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place at Hohenzollern Castle near Hechingen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). Hohenzollern Castle was closed to visitors from July 13th to 24th, 2015, for filming.
  • The sanatorium building is part of a former hospital complex. During World War I, many soldiers, including Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), were treated there.
  • The sanatorium building was filmed at the old clinic for the treatment of tuberculosis patients in Belitz-Heilstätten. The building and surrounding area were in disrepair for decades, after which everything was restored. A total of 750 windows (with a total area of 1,000 square meters of glass), 350 doors, 1,200 square meters of walls, and much more were replaced during the process of restoring the building's historical appearance.
  • The film was shot in Germany. According to the plot, it takes place in Switzerland, and the mountains in the distance were added during post-production using computer technology.
  • The book that the orderly reads in one of the scenes is Thomas Mann's (1875-1955) novel “The Magic Mountain” (1924). In the book, a young man comes to a sanatorium in the Alps to visit someone, but he is told that he is ill and needs to undergo a course of treatment there.
