What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot in chronological order. The lead actress, Hayley Squires, never received the full script before the start of filming. She was given pieces of the script each day before the start of shooting.
  • After a screening of the film at the Cannes International Film Festival, the audience gave Ken Loach and the film's crew a 15-minute standing ovation.
  • Dave Jones's debut film role.
  • A woman helps the character Katy in the scene at the charitable food bank. She is not an actress, but an employee of the foundation who had no idea what was supposed to happen in the scene. A similar incident to Katy's at the charitable food bank happened in real life to a woman from Glasgow. Paul Laverty met her while gathering material for the script.
