The film was shot in chronological order. The lead actress, Hayley Squires, never received the full script before the start of filming. She was given pieces of the script each day before the start of shooting.

A similar incident to Katy's at the charitable food bank happened in real life to a woman from Glasgow. Paul Laverty met her while gathering material for the script.
