Short description
The story is based on the real events of 1985. The team of a Russian polar icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov” discovered a giant iceberg. The ship came into collision while attempting to take cover from the weather and is forced to drift with ice along the Amundsen Sea coast. The crew of “Gromov” spent 133 days of polar night trying to find a way out of their icy trap. They have no room for mistakes; one wrong move and the vessel is crushed by ice.

- Unlike the film, the real icebreaker 'Mikhail Somov'’s drift occurred during the polar night.
- The film's plot is partially based on real events that occurred in 1985 with the icebreaker "Mikhail Somov," which became trapped in Antarctic ice.
- The nuclear icebreaker "Lenin," which was decommissioned and permanently docked in Murmansk in 1989, was used for filming the movie.
- The iceberg, like the ice field with the ice-bound icebreaker, is also drifting and could not have broken through the ice to ram the ship.
- Captain Petrov easily finds a Rubik's Cube that was thrown away two weeks prior, while his own footprints are covered in snow within minutes.
