This is the very first episode of the legendary Tom and Jerry cartoon series.
Initially, the cartoon's directors, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, did not name the main characters Tom and Jerry – their original names were Jasper and Jinx. In this particular episode, only the cat’s original name was mentioned; the mouse’s name was never spoken.
The first episode of the cartoon series is the longest.
Jasper (future Tom) in this episode appears as a perfectly ordinary cat, without human traits: he moves on all fours, makes normal feline meows, etc. Furthermore, in the first few episodes, he has a slightly atypical appearance, different from the traditional one for the series.
