Short description
Gulliver washes ashore on Lilliput and attempts to prevent war between that tiny kingdom and its equally-miniscule rival, Blefiscu, as well as smooth the way for the romance between the Princess and Prince of the opposing lands. In this he is alternately aided and hampered by the Lilliputian town crier and general fussbudget, Gabby. A life-threatening situation develops when the bumbling trio of Blefiscu spies, Sneak, Snoop, and Snitch, manage to steal Gulliver's pistol.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Over 700 artists hand-painted the cartoon for 18 months. 12 tons of paint and 39,000 pencils were used. If the storyboard were laid out sheet by sheet, it would create a strip 27 miles long.
  • This is the first feature-length animated film created by the independent studio "Fleischer Studios"; before this, only "Walt Disney Pictures" had created full-length cartoons.
  • A new and, at the time, the most progressive "rotoscoped" technology was used in production – a method where a live actor, in this case Gulliver himself, was filmed first, and then the resulting image was traced by an animator, creating a very realistically moving picture. This animation method was actively used for many years in the USSR as well.
  • Screenwriter Cal Howard served as the prototype for Prince David.
  • The film was so successful that it was shown in theaters until the 1960s.
  • Sam Parker was chosen from over 500 applicants for the role of Gulliver.
