What's left behind the scenes
- Over 700 artists hand-painted the cartoon for 18 months. 12 tons of paint and 39,000 pencils were used. If the storyboard were laid out sheet by sheet, it would create a strip 27 miles long.
- This is the first feature-length animated film created by the independent studio "Fleischer Studios"; before this, only "Walt Disney Pictures" had created full-length cartoons.
- A new and, at the time, the most progressive "rotoscoped" technology was used in production – a method where a live actor, in this case Gulliver himself, was filmed first, and then the resulting image was traced by an animator, creating a very realistically moving picture. This animation method was actively used for many years in the USSR as well.
- Screenwriter Cal Howard served as the prototype for Prince David.
- The film was so successful that it was shown in theaters until the 1960s.
- Sam Parker was chosen from over 500 applicants for the role of Gulliver.
