Short description
A biography of the dancer Isadora Duncan, the 1920s dancer who forever changed people's ideas of ballet. Her nude, semi-nude, and pro-Soviet dance projects as well as her attitudes on free love, debt, dress, and lifestyle shocked the public of her time.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Isadora Duncan's book "My Life" and Sewell Stokes' "Isadora Duncan: An Intimate Portrait".
  • During the filming of the dance scene in the theater, with unsuspecting extras playing the audience, Vanessa Redgrave did what Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) once did herself. She ripped off the top of her dress and danced topless. The extras were caught off guard, and this achieved the reaction of a completely shocked audience, which is what director Karel Reisz (1926-2002) wanted to capture.
  • Vanessa Redgrave spent six months learning to dance in a style similar to Isadora Duncan's.
