Short description
When strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, people are drawn outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Now the band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Colin Straus and Greg Straus independently financed the film, without seeking funding from any studio.
  • The appearance of many alien ships is indebted to various cloud formations – from stratocumulus to cumulus.
  • Practically the entire film was shot in a building where one of the directors and producers, Greg Straus, resides, located in Venice, one of the districts of Los Angeles.
  • The film utilized over 1000 special effects.
  • The entire $10 million budget went towards computer graphics; approximately $500,000 was spent on filming the movie itself.
  • Sony Pictures filed a lawsuit against Colin Straus, Greg Straus, and the owners of Hydraulix Films, who had previously been hired to produce special effects for the thematically similar film "Battle: Los Angeles" (2011). Sony claimed that Hydraulix had not informed them that the company was working on a competing project. The case was later dismissed.
  • Colin Straus and Greg Straus secured the rights to use a song by 30 Seconds to Mars at a low cost due to their friendship with Jared Leto.
