• Casey Affleck's directorial debut (full name – Caleb Casey McGuire Affleck-Boldt), brother of Ben Affleck.
• The opening scenes of the film are a reconstruction.
• The speech with which Edward James Olmos addresses Joaquin Phoenix was written by Casey Affleck himself.
• This is impossible to understand from the film itself, but rapper and music producer Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs approached filming the movie with unprecedented enthusiasm. It took only one meeting and conversation with Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck to persuade him to play himself. All scenes with Combs were improvised.
