What's left behind the scenes
- Filming took place on the grounds of historical monuments and estates in the UK – at the Tower of London, Hatfield House, and Dover Castle.
- Shoppers at the mall didn't recognize Anthony Hopkins in makeup and costume and mistook him for a homeless person.
- The King Lear costumes combined elements of 20th-century and modern clothing. Costume designer Fotini Dimou specifically avoided creating anything futuristic.
- In Ronald Harwood's TV film *The Dresser* (2015), Anthony Hopkins plays an aging actor preparing to go on stage as King Lear. Executive producers liked the idea—Hopkins as Lear—which eventually led to this adapted screen adaptation of the play of the same name (1605-1606) by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) starring Hopkins in the lead role.
