When her idyllic vacation takes an unthinkable turn, Ellen Martin begins investigating a fake insurance policy, only to find herself down a rabbit hole of questionable dealings that can be linked to a Panama City law firm and its vested interest in helping the world's wealthiest citizens amass larger fortunes.

- The film is based on a book by screenwriter Jake Bernstein, which reveals the story of the leak of the so-called "Panama Papers" and presents a broad picture of political and financial corruption and machinations.
- It took Steven Soderbergh three years to prepare for filming.
- Gary Oldman worked on his German accent by listening to recordings of German stand-up comedian Henning Wehn.
- "Netflix" showed interest in the project when it became known that Meryl Streep would be starring in it. There are very few films with her participation on this platform. Incidentally, Streep's presence in the cast also had a very positive effect on the project's funding.
