The film is based on a book by screenwriter Jake Bernstein, which reveals the story of the leak of the so-called "Panama Papers" and presents a broad picture of political and financial corruption and machinations.
It took Steven Soderbergh three years to prepare for filming.
Gary Oldman worked on his German accent by listening to recordings of German stand-up comedian Henning Wehn.
"Netflix" showed interest in the project when it became known that Meryl Streep would be starring in it. There are very few films with her participation on this platform. Incidentally, Streep's presence in the cast also had a very positive effect on the project's funding.
In one scene, Meryl Streep is shown in the guise and makeup of an office worker. At the film's premiere, the actress arrived with an old friend whom she had known for 43 years. Her friend did not recognize her on screen in costume and makeup.
