Short description

Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

What's left behind the scenes

Dev Patel wrote the screenplay for approximately eight years. He drew inspiration from Korean revenge thrillers and action films, such as the John Wick franchise.
Principal photography took place in Batam, Indonesia.
During filming, Dev Patel sustained several injuries, including a broken arm and two broken toes, a shoulder injury, and an eye infection.
Due to budget constraints, many scenes were filmed using action cameras and smartphones.
The episode of the village burning was filmed on location – a fire was lit at the location at night, and they made sure the thatched roofs of the houses didn't burn prematurely. Around 120 extras, including children, were involved in the scene.
