Short description
After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel and Gretel have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell-bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches... their past.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" (Hänsel und Gretel, 1812).
  • Diane Kruger, Eva Green, and Noomi Rapace were initially considered for the role of Gretel.
  • In an interview at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, Famke Janssen stated that she agreed to the role of the witch leader because she needed to pay off debts. Janssen repeatedly mentioned, starting in 2007, that she was preparing the film "Bad Mommy" (2011), where she debuted as a director/screenwriter. The film's funding and distribution experienced difficult times, partly due to the 2008 economic crisis. Moreover, she had barely appeared in any films during that period.
  • In the scene with images of missing children on milk bottles, the first one features the famous painting by Pinturicchio, "Portrait of a Boy".
