What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, it was assumed that Matthew Lillard would simply lighten his hair for the role of Steve. During the procedure, however, hydrogen peroxide burned the actor's scalp, leaving a scar. They only managed to hide it by dyeing his hair blue.
  • The apocalyptic landscape that appears behind Sandy during her conversation with Steve was "borrowed" from James Cameron's action film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991).
  • When a character turns off the camera in the shopping mall and says, "Anarchy in the UK," it is the voice of director James Merendino. His voice was dubbed over the actor's because he didn't like how the actor delivered the line.
  • The scene in Steve's parents' living room, where they try to convince him to go to Harvard, was filmed in the home of the film's director, James Merendino's father.
  • Matthew Lillard claimed he could only play the scene of discovering Bob's body by being alone on set, and that he was only able to cry by thinking about his father.
  • The apocalyptic landscape that appears behind Sandy during her conversation with Steve was “borrowed” from James Cameron’s action film *Terminator 2: Judgment Day* (1991).
