- Producer Cecil B. DeMille (1881-1959) flew into a rage when Paulette Goddard refused to perform in a difficult scene where her character was pelted with flaming projectiles. DeMille was forced to hire a stuntwoman, who subsequently suffered burns. It is claimed that DeMille had the opportunity to get even with Goddard five years later, when he was filming 'The Greatest Show on Earth' (1952), and Goddard sought the key role, but he cast Gloria Grahame (1923-1981) instead.
