• Lyman Ward and Cindy Pickett, who played the main character's parents in the film, actually got married after filming.
• The screenplay was written in just 6 days.
• During the parade in the film, several people (including a construction worker and a window washer) who had nothing to do with the film are dancing. They were just dancing to the music that was playing, but director John Hughes liked it so much that he told the cameraman to film them.
