What's left behind the scenes
- The narrow checkered black and white trousers worn by Michael McKean's character are a reference to Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick from the late 1970s, who wore similar trousers at the height of his fame.
- Tony Hendra, who played the band's producer in the film 'This Is Spinal Tap' (1984), died in 2021, and his daughter Kerry Gadlimen plays him in the sequel.
- In the archival clip, the band is shown rehearsing before a performance in Gloucester (where a traditional cheese-rolling race is held annually on the last Monday in May).
- John Michael Higgins' character wears a jumpsuit and ballet flats, a reference to Jack LaLanne.
- In appearance and name (baseball cap, beard, etc.), Rob Reiner's character Marty Di Bergi is a reference to Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, and Steven Spielberg.
- Michael McKean's character wears a Shank Hall t-shirt, a fictional establishment in Milwaukee where the band performed in the original 1984 film. In July 1984, a music promoter organized a performance by the band at the UW-Madison Ballroom and promised its members that if he ever opened a club in Milwaukee, he would name it Shank Hall. He did indeed open a club with that name in Milwaukee five years later.
