What's left behind the scenes

  • At the insistence of Luc Besson, the lead actress, Anne Parillaud, spent a lot of time handling weapons to get used to them. She constantly loaded and unloaded a mock pistol even while in her car. Once, police noticed this, assumed the weapon was real, and forced the actress to stop and exit the car with her hands raised.
  • Victor arrives at the embassy in a Mercedes with diplomatic license plates indicating the car belongs to the Australian embassy.
  • In the restaurant scene, Nikita fires a Desert Eagle Mark VII pistol chambered in .357 Magnum, manufactured by the Israeli military state corporation Israel Military Industries.
  • Filming took place from February 13 to July 10, 1989.
  • At the insistence of Luc Besson, the lead actress, Anne Parillaud, spent a lot of time with weapons to get used to them. She constantly loaded and unloaded a pistol mock-up even in the car. Once, police noticed this, assumed the weapon was real, and forced the actress to stop and exit the car with her hands up.
  • In the first scene featuring Anne Parillaud, she delivers only one line, yet it took around a hundred takes to film. Parillaud later learned that director Luc Besson used the second take in the film.
  • Viktor arrives at the embassy in a Mercedes with diplomatic license plates indicating the car belongs to the Australian embassy.
